Blume Global CEO, Pervinder Johar joined Sarah Barnes-Humphrey on a Let’s Talk Supply Chain “Thoughts and Coffee” episode that explored the busy intersection of machine learning and logistics technology.
Johar provided a market snapshot on what he is seeing in the industry, as well as what Blume customers are talking about and what is important to them at the moment. Contrary to 2020, where the focus was on visibility, the market has turned as optimization is taking the stage, where people want to learn their supply chains more effectively.
“The last three, four years, has made supply chain cool again, but that also means there is a lot of focus on it. The focus continues to be on resiliency...because disruptions are everywhere, and they continue. Additionally, a lot of market focus on optimization, where at the end of 2020, it was on visibility,” said Johar.
Control towers are becoming a huge focus for supply chain players, and machine learning is playing a role in the development of the next generation control tower.
“There are a couple of things going on with control towers. It is a word we have been using for 15-20 years or so. Many people think control towers are digital because they’ve outsourced it, but outsourcing doesn’t make it digital. In reality, everyone is looking at exceptions manually...if you are relying on humans to see, act and react, by definition, you are going to have a lot of people around,” said Johar.
